About Deficit Bomb
Making the U.S. fiscal picture clearer — for everyone, not just specialists.
Deficit Bomb is an independent publication dedicated to making the U.S. national debt and the federal budget more understandable. The national debt is one of the most consequential numbers in American public life, yet it is often discussed in slogans rather than facts. Our goal is to change that.
We track the debt, the annual deficit, and the spending, revenue and interest forces that drive them — using public data from the U.S. Treasury, the Congressional Budget Office, and the Office of Management and Budget. We explain the numbers in plain language, show the trade-offs behind different policy choices, and keep our coverage neutral and evidence-based.
Principles
What We Stand For
Transparency
We show our sources and methodology, and label estimates and projections clearly.
Neutrality
We take no partisan position. We describe the record and the options, and let readers judge.
Clarity
We write for a general audience, not only economists, and avoid jargon wherever possible.
Deficit Bomb is an educational resource, not financial or investment advice. We do not endorse any candidate, party, or specific legislative proposal. If you have a question, correction, or suggestion, we'd like to hear from you.
